More then 250 years ago, a kindly old farmer working in a wood lot adjoining a clear rippling brook by the edge of a lazy stream, saw a tiny turtle on the forest floor.

 

It was already Fall and the weather was about to turn very cold. So, the kindly old farmer placed the tiny turtle  into his large coat pocket so as to remain safe and warm while he continued to complete his wood gathering and the loading of his simple handcart for the journey Home.

 

Upon arriving at his simple two room hut the kindly old farmer unloaded his wood and then carried afew choice pieces of wood into his Home and built a Fire.

 

Placing the tiny turtle gently by the fire to warm itself the kindly old farmer bent down low, smiling at the tiny turtle and said: "Do you feel well my friend?"

 

To which the tiny turtle replied: "INDUBITABLY!"

 

So surprised was the kindly old farmer that this little turtle could TALK, that he quickly made up his mind to take the tiny turtle to the local Priest for guidance.

 

Upon arriving at the Holy old Priest's Home, the kindly old farmer knocked three times.

 

The Holy old Priest greeted the kindly old farmer at his door and asked him into his parlor.

 

"What is it that brings you to home at this hour?"; said the Holy old Priest.

 

At the Holy old Priest's inquiry, the kindly old farmer placed the tiny turtle on the table.

 

The Holy old Priest; bending Low; looking at the tiny turtle, said: " Is this NOT a Turtle?"

 

To which the turtle replied: "INDUBITABLY!"

 

Astonished, the Holy old Priest turned to the kindly old farmer and said: "You MUST leave THIS turtle with ME!"

 

So, the kindly old farmer left the tiny turtle with the Holy old Priest and, went Home.

 

The Holy old Priest treated the turtle very well, reading the Bible to the tiny turtle each evening.

 

The tiny turtle always listening attentively and when consulted would always settle issues on Faith and Morals when asked; answering with the single word: "INDUBITABLY !".

 

Well; the Holy old Priest was so taken with the Wisdom of the tiny turtle that he took the tiny turtle to the KING!

 

Upon hearing the tales of Wisdom and Reason from the Holy old Priest, the King called upon his greatest minds to come and Reason before the Turtle!

 

The Turtle when asked would always reply with the single word: " INDUBITABLY!"

 

As years progressed, the King and his Kingdom became so Rich and Powerful from the Guidance of the Turtle that the King set forth a proclamation to build for the Turtle, a University; upon which, would be built a very large mansion for the Dean of the College; and, a Suite of Rooms within for the Turtle; for as Long as the Turtle might LIVE!

 

And, Turtles do LIVE a VERY VERY long Time!

 

As Time passed; as Time does pass, the University Campus grew and evolved to become both Rich and Influential; due solely to the Turtle's continued Guidance and Wisdom.

 

Settling all arguments; answering all questions of dispute arising among the Scholastic Community unerringly with a single word: "INDUBITABLY".

 

Early one morning; not less than five full generations and exactly 250 Years to the very Day that the kindly old farmer had rescued the tiny turtle from the forest floor, the current Dean arrived early upon that morning to wish his Old and by now very LARGE friend the TURTLE, to arise!

 

The Old Turtle however did NOT arise; for on that very Day, the Old Turtle had DIED !

 

Now, 250 Years is indeed a very LONG LIFE; but, that, in no way lessened the impact on the Kingdom; or, the University!

 

If the Greatest Minds of the Kingdom hadn't anticipated the sad possibility of the Old Turtles passing; gathering forth all the Kingdom's maps before the Old Turtle; asking the Old Turtle in WHAT Location yet another Turtle might be FOUND; who with an equal Wisdom, and Guidance, might judge and indeed make the Unknowable Known to THEM after the Old Turtle's DEATH, his PASSING, would have been a very Great Catastrophe for the KINGDOM and the UNIVERSITY!

 

To Celebrate the Old Turtle's Life and Accomplishments, the current King held forth YET ANOTHER PROCLAMATION; to wit, there was held forth a wonderful sumptuous FEAST at the University for several thousand of his Noblist and Greatest Subjects.

 

Also at the Banquet, where the University Staff and the Dean, who knew the Old Turtle well.

 

Firstly, the current Priest arose, and spoke of the Old Turtle's WISDOM.

 

Secondly, the current King arose, and spoke of the Old Turtle's KNOWLEDGE.

 

Thirdly, the current Dean; who knew the Old Turtle well, spoke of the Old Turtle's LEGACY, in the form of the New Young Tiny Turtle, which he NOW held forth in his Hand!

 

After the dinner, the Dean arose to THANK the current Priest and the Noble King and indeed all the Dignitaries for attending the vast Banquet; and, to remind them that wherever they might go in future, surely, a little of the Old Turtle's Wisdom shalt go forth with each and every one of the them.

 

Triumphantly; whilst the Dean held the New Young Tiny Turtle up to the microphone; the New Young Tiny Turtle too spoke these words of Wisdom which where HEARD AND MURMURED from that Day Forth, THROUGHOUT THE KINGDOM:
